TFSA (Tax-Free Savings Account)

Canadian registered account where investment growth and withdrawals are tax-free.

Definition

Introduced 2009. Annual contribution room ($7,000 for 2026) plus carry-forward of unused room and any prior withdrawals. Investment income (interest, dividends, capital gains) is not taxed. Note: TFSAs do NOT receive Canada-US treaty exemption from the 15% U.S. withholding tax on U.S. dividends — RRSPs do.
