CIRO

The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, formed January 1, 2023.

Definition

CIRO is the national self-regulatory organization that oversees Canadian investment dealers, mutual fund dealers, and trading on Canadian equity and debt marketplaces. It was formed January 1, 2023 by merging IIROC and the MFDA. CIRO writes the IDPC Rules, administers UMIR, and (through Fitch Learning) administers the CIRO Proficiency Model exams including the CIRE.
